SHARING A MOMENT IN ROTARY

FOR DISTIRCT 6580

MARCH 12, 2008

Dear 6580 Rotary Leaders:

At the end of January District Governor Elect Bill Ryall and his wife Marty were in San Diego attending many training meetings that took a variety of forms – from actual speeches to fellowship gatherings to small discussion groups.  Rotary International leaders work to bring continued continuity from one year to the next.  Your President elect has now attended PETS.  As at the RI and District levels I hope you and other club members are working to make the transition a smooth one.  July 2008 may seem many months away but the time will tick by quickly.  Our RI leaders are visionary and recognize the importance of maintaining key priorities.  Sustaining district and local club goals are similarly important.  Many clubs are holding day long retreats or setting aside a few hours each week to be certain club plans are established and ready for the July 2 liftoff.

As we look forward to next year we must still stay focused on the activities that remain to be achieved including welcoming the GSE team from Brazil , attending the District Conference April 25-26 in VeVay at Belterra Resort and Spa.  Please make your room reservations now by calling 1-888-235-8377.  Mention Code C74415 when making reservations.  Room rates are $75.00 on Thursday, $99 on Friday, and $169 on Saturday.  We intend for the Sat. evening to end in time for those who would prefer to drive home to do so.

The meetings begin Friday morning with an important Leadership Training program followed by the business meeting that will include distribution of some awards.  The House of Friendship will open at 8:00 Friday morning.  Each year clubs present a basket that represents the club, community or area of the state.  Rotarians participate in a fun silent auction that will benefit our RI Foundation.  As I write I’m sitting in a comfortable chair obtained via the auction.

Club Displays for District Conference: Do you have folks working on your club PR, Marketing, Communication, website, brochure, print and press activities?  Showcase your club and your great year.  I’m proud of every club in the district and I hope you will SHARE with the other clubs in the district.  At District Assembly recognition will be given for those judged outstanding.

Presidential Citation Certificate: You have until March 31st to get your club to the +1 membership goal.  Many clubs are so close with one or two new members still needed.  There is time if you work quickly.  Please get the form to me by April 2 so that I can submit to RI on time.

RI Foundation Support:  Please send your foundation support off to RI so that they and we have a better sense of how we are measuring up in keeping our district commitment.

Did you celebrate Rotary’s Birthday?  Please send pictures and short information on what the club did for inclusion in THE SIGN. Deadline: March 17. Send to jwitt@indiana.edu.
