A MONDAY MOMENT
IN ROTARY
FOR DISTRICT 6580
JULY 16, 2007
Dear 6580 Rotary Leaders:
As you all know membership growth and development is one of RI President
Wilkinson's primary issues for this year. President Wilf's goals can only
be effective as long as every Rotarian is aware of these goals and are
on the same page. As an incentive a new pin has been created which will
recognize the SPONSOR of a new Rotary member. Just think what amazing
things your club could do if you could double or nearly double your membership.
I have purchased an optimistic supply of these pins which I will bring
to my "Official Visit" with your club. I would welcome the opportunity
that day to recognize any recent sponsors. When the District Governor's
were trained RI President Wilf challenged us to bring in at least one
new member during our year as DG. I issue the same challenge to each of
you to bring in one, just one, new member. One new member at a time is
all it takes to bring growth to your club. Ask someone to join your club
today. I'm counting on your involvement!
* It's amazing that this is already the beginning of week three as your
District Governor. I have asked Club Presidents to schedule no other program
during my DG visit. I would like to meet with your Club President for
about 15 minutes and the club leadership for approx. 45 minutes before
or after this meeting to learn more about your club's activities and plans
for the year.
* It is our Club Membership and RI Foundation committee work that makes
all other areas of Rotary possible. DGN and D Membership Chair Bettye
Dunham, PDG and D Foundation Chair Steve Richards, and D. Trainer Pete
King are busy planning for the District Membership and Foundation Seminar.
Please mark your calendar and plan to attend this informative meeting
September 29th for this important day. Details and registration materials
will be available soon.
* Lee and I had an amazing time in Grand Rapids, Michigan where we met
with approx. 700 inbound, outbound and rebound Rotary Youth Exchange students
from around the world. Along with Rotary leaders and parents of many of
these student there were about 1,300 of us learning about each other,
the countries each represented and the experiences of these kids. The
talent show we experienced was truly entertaining.
* Now is the time to be working on the following:
- Promote applications for the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) Contact
Pam Blasdel for more information - pblasdel@hsonline.net.
- Submit applications for the Group Study Exchange team leader and GSE
team members to Panamá, Brazil. Contact Paul Bippen for more information
- pbippen@iupuc.edu.
- I'd be interested in hearing about your club Literacy activities for
July.
- Plan for August Membership and Extension activities. Resources for your
membership use include: A Guide to Membership Retention (Rotary e-learning
module) and Membership Development Resource Guide (417-EN)
- Join the over 10,000 Rotary leaders reading the free Membership Minute:
www.rotary.org/jump/memberminute_reg
* I hope you have shared your Club Planning Guide with your Assistant
Governor. It was due by July 1. Completion of this plan will provide you
with the necessary information for you to have a great year. Your AG will
be using this document to be of greatest assistance to you.
* It's time to change the RI theme and logo on your various publications.
Consider including your Assistant Governor and District Governor. Remember
we are available to assist you in your Rotary activities. Club visits
are the best part about being District Governor. My DG schedule for the
next two weeks is very busy: Tuesday, July 17 - Rotary Club of Franklin,
Wednesday, July 18 - Rotary Club of Greenwood/White River for breakfast
and Rotary Club of Terre Haute South for the dedication of a park which
was their Centennial project and meeting with their board in the evening,
Thursday, July 19 - Rotary Club of Terre Haute South meeting, and Rotary
Club of Jasper. Friday/Saturday, July 20/21 - Franklin, TN RI President
Wilf Wilkinson's Membership Conference.
Monday, July 23 - Rotary Club of Princeton, Tuesday, July 24 Rotary Club
of Bloomington and
DGE/DGN planning meeting at Spring Mill State Park, Wednesday, July 25
- Rotary Club of
Bloomington Sunrise and Rotary Club of Linton, July 26 - Rotary Club of
Evansville Morning and
Rotary Club of Warrick County, and finally Friday, July 27 - Rotary Club

* THANK YOU! to all of you who made our District Celebration in Bloomington
a very special occasion. It was uplifting to recognize the splendid activities
of so many clubs and the leadership in our district. It was clear that
Rotarians are working to show how Rotary Shares at home and around the
world. Congratulations to all award winning Rotarians and Clubs that were
recognized for achievements for LEADING THE WAY in 2007-08. This year
let's demonstrate how ROTARY SHARES.
* Finally, as space permits I'd like to include a calendar of upcoming
public events that will involve your Rotary club in August and September.
A very brief description of the event is welcome. So, what is your club
doing these days?
Have a Great Rotary week!
