Recently the
RI Board adopted a new certificate program designed to stimulate growth
in the 22 percent of clubs that have
Fewer than 20 members. More information on The Recognition of Smaller
Club Membership Growth can be found on
page 56 of the August ROTARIAN. While you have the magazine open please
also read the article on page 57 dealing with the
schedule for dues increase that begins in 2008 -09.
August is Membership and Extension Month. A good source of information
to help with membership retention is a
PowerPoint found in the Rotary e-learning module at: <http://www.rotary.org/training/elearning/membership_retention_files/frames.htm>www.rotary.org/training/elearning/membership_retention_files/frames.htm.
The ROTARIAN has two very informative articles beginning on page 34 focusing
on ROTARY BASICS which should be shared
With every prospective members. Please ask your Membership committee to
review this material.
International Literacy Day is September 8th. Please consider a club program
that week about illiteracy and how to combat it.
Clubs should strive for five literacy activities this year.
Please remind your club members of the many ways to have perfect attendance.
Rotarians are on the summer vacation road.
Check with your club Secretary to locate clubs in the area. These are
often unique experiences to be remembered and shared
with home club members. Go to <http://www.rotaryeclubone.org/>www.rotaryeclubone.org
to participate in the eCLUB ONE program. This provides an easy
make-up opportunities to assure attendance requirements are met. Rotarians
will need their club ID # and the
District ID #: 6580. Finally, attendance at Rotary Board or committee
meetings also qualifies.
PolioPlus FIRST AUSTRALIAN POLIO CASE IN 21 YEARS! If you have
thought that polio was gone from the world, it is
not. A national health alert has been issued, particularly for airline
passengers, after a 22 year-old Pakistani man was
diagnosed with polio, the first case reported in Australia since 1986.
The student, who suffered poliomyelitis symptoms after
holidaying in Pakistan last month, has recovered from the debilitating
disease but he is being isolated from the Melbourne
community. Polio symptoms include fever, vomiting and muscle stiffness
and if it progresses to a major illness, severe muscle
pain and stiffness of the neck and back with flaccid paralysis.
Please make PolioPlus Partners checks payable to The Rotary Foundation
and indicate on the check that it is for POLIOPLUS
PARTNERS. Mail them to: The Rotary Foundation 14280 collections Center
Drive, Chicago, IL 60693. Again, thank you
for your support of POLIOPLUS PARTNERS.
